Clara Jean Stroup, Hart School Board Member (Ret.)

lara Jean Stroup, 63, died on Jan. 30 in Santa Clarita after a long illness. She was born on Oct. 21, 1940, in South Bend, Ind.
Stroup is survived by daughters, Jeannie Stroup of Littlerock, and Sally Stroup of Lancaster; son, Wendell (Kristen) Stroup of Newhall; grandsons, Dreyson and Deagen Stoup; and granddaughter Devon Stroup, all of Newhall.
A service will be held on Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary, Garden of Eternity, 23287 N. Sierra Highway, Newhall. A reception will follow the service, directions will be provided at the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Bank, 24133 Railroad Ave., Newhall, CA.
Her family wrote: "As the Executive Director of the Association to Aid Victims of Domestic Violence, she was instrumental in securing a safe house to be used by abuse victims and their families. From 1979 to 1991, Clara was a member and a Chairman of the William S. Hart High School District Board of Trustees and worked hard to unify the Santa Clarita Valley Schools districts.
"Clara was also co-founder of the Hart High School Activity Scholarship Fund, President and Treasurer of the Hart High School Band Boosters, recipient of a letter of Commendation from Mayor Sam Yorty for work on School Earthquake Safety, a member of the Hart High School Parent Advisory Council, and member of the SCV Community Advisory Committee for Special Education.
"Clara was a staunch advocate of Human Rights and a voracious reader. She liked to spend her leisure time with friends and family enjoying concerts and cultural events."
