R
ound 'em up and move 'em out ... to the "Friday Night Flickers" fund-raiser to benefit the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society.
The event, originally created to mesh with the Santa Clarita Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival, will return quarterly at the society's Saugus Train Station headquarters in Newhall.
The first fund-raiser will feature the 1929 film "Code of the West" on Friday, Aug. 15.
Future dates (with movies to be announced) will be on the third Friday in November, February and May.
"We've found some fabulous never-before seen (in our station) movies that were filmed in the area that you won't want to miss," Historical Society board member Carol Rock said in a statement.
The August offering, "Code of the West," was shot entirely in downtown Newhall and prominently features the old Newhall Train Station as well as the stationmaster's home, the original Newhall Sheriff's station and the Hap-A-Land Dance Hall.
"We're really excited about this new quarterly series because we're not talking about the Bill Hart and Tom Mix stuff that a lot of folks in Santa Clarita have seen before," Historical Society President Leon Worden said. "We've dug up some more obscure fare that's surprisingly rich with recognizable local buildings and canyons."
In addition to the movie, guests will enjoy a catered dinner, including dessert, soft drinks and coffee.
Admission is $25 for SCVHS members ($15 for each child under 12). Non-members: $30 per person ($20 for each child under 12).
SCVHS members can buy the "Friday Night Flickers Series" (four events) for $100 ($60 for kids); nonmembers cost is $120 ($80 for kids). Series subscribers can also choose a "Legacy" video or one of the two SCV History books produced by the students at Sierra Vista Junior High School.
For reservations send e-mail to info@scvhistory.com or call 254-1275 and leave your name and number.
