March 29, 1973 — Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda — for 1972's "Klute," which was playing at the Plaza Theatre — discusses Vietnamese culture in the main gallery at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.

One of the most outspoken and recognizable critics of the war in Vietnam, Fonda had traveled to North Vietnam the previous July on a self-styled peace mission. Ever after, critics referred to her as "Hanoi Jane." The war ended in 1975.

Arrested at numerous anti-war protests beginning in 1970, she is still getting herself arrested for civil disobe­dience as we add these photos to the SCVHistory archive in the year 2020 — most recently at rallies calling for action on climate change.

Click to enlarge. [The Signal, April 2, 1973] — Academy Award winner Jane Fonda, most conspicuous and vocal of anti-war activists, spoke at CalArts Thursday night. Students, who had been disappointed when she failed to appear at previous scheduled events, filled the seats to hear Ms. Fonda discuss Vietnamese culture. She talked about the film industry in North Vietnam, where, she said, three studios work 24 hours a day producing, respectively, cartoons, documentaries, and fiction. In a tribute to Disney-founded CalArts, she said that Walt Disney is the "hero" of the North Vietnamese Animators.
