October 24, 1992 — Program (brochure) for the dedication of the Santa Clarita Metrolink Station at 22122 Soledad Canyon Road in Saugus.
The Santa Clarita station was the SCV's only station when Metrolink's Santa Clarita line opened to riders two days later.
The city of Santa Clarita built the station (and parking lot) on property it leased from Whittaker-Bermite.

All Aboard Metrolink
The young City of Santa Clarita stands on the horizon of the 21st Century, ready to usher in a new age of transportation. Like our ancestors who eagerly anticipated the progress and mobility created with the appearance of the steam engine in the 1830s, we too anticipate the opportunities the Metrolink system will afford commuters and residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.
On October 26, 1992, Metrolink's Santa Clarita line will begin operation from Santa Clarita to the San Fernando Valley and downtown Los Angeles, with three trains leaving in the morning, and three trains returning in the afternoon.
Commuters will enjoy new, double decker trains in periwinkle blue and white, offering a quiet, comfortable ride to three destinations: Burbank, Glendale and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. Later, a line to Sylmar/San Fernando will be added.
Features of the new low-pollution, diesel locomotives, built by General Motors, include: two double doors on each side of the rail car, allowing for quick and easy loading and unloading of passengers; plus seating; large restrooms; on-board bicycle racks; air conditioning; heading; and loading platforms for elderly and disabled passengers. For commuter convenience, several work tables are situated between passenger seats that can be utilized by passengers for reading and writing.
In conjunction with the coming of the commuter rail, the City of Santa Clarita has spent $5.2 million to lease property and construct the new Santa Clarita Station. This beautiful new station includes 500 parking spaces, a passenger drop-off area, restroom facilities, vending machines, and is easily accessible from all of the communities in the City. Additionally, the site may also accommodate future commuter-oriented commercial ventures.
Thank you for joining us today, to usher in this historic Santa Clarita event. For more information regarding the Metrolink Service, call 1-800-371-LINK.
