German-language movie herald, 5¾x8¼ inches (15x21 cm), 16 pages octavo, with cast, crew, story and photos from "Django Unchained" (Columbia Pictures 2012), winner of two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes, both for Best Original Screenplay (Quentin Tarantino) and Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz).

According to the text, shooting got underway November 28, 2011, at the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio in Placerita Canyon. Waltz and lead actor Jamie Foxx (Django) had spent months practicing with stunt coordinator Jeff Dashnaw and horse trainer Spence Bennett before getting into the saddle in front of the cameras. (The text is correct when it says Melody Ranch was well known for "countless classic films and television series," but it errs in saying 1939's "Stagecoach" was one of them. It wasn't.)

From there the production shifted to the Big Sky Ranch in Simi Valley for a scene where Waltz's wagon is overturned. Three generations of stunt performers participated at Big Sky, ages 19-75.

Next the production schlepped north to Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills at the foot of Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevadas. Tarantino was pleased because he didn't want to resort to using CGI, and it was cold and damp enough to see the actors' breath.

But Mammoth was a bust. There wasn't enough snow. So, they packed up and headed to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

The shooting script then called for the warm, tropical weather of a Southern plantation. The remaining scenes were filmed at the Evergreen Plantation outside of New Orleans. Privately owned, it is both a working sugar plantation today and a tourist attraction that advertises itself as "the most intact plantation complex in the South with 37 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, including 22 slave cabins."

Filming wrapped July 24, 2012, after some pick-up shooting back home in L.A.

"Django Unchained" premiered December 11, 2012, in New York City; January 8, 2013, in Berlin; and January 16-18 in most other parts of the world.
