After failing to make it as a pop singer, Alamo, aka Bernie Lazar Hoffman, "saucered" to Saugus (Sleepy Valley/Agua Dulce) where he established a cult ministry (different meaning of "cult"), provided construction labor for the Canyon High School football stadium in 1968, distributed anti-Catholic tracts in parking lots, shortchanged workers who manufactured his custom sequined denim jackets, served time for income-tax evasion, and ultimately was sentenced to 175 years in federal prison for transporting children across state lines for sexual purposes. He died May 3, 2017, in a prison hospital in North Carolina.
