Obituary 2006

Warren M. Dorn represented the Santa Clarita Valley as Los Angeles County's 5th district supervisor from 1956 to 1972. Dorn, a conservative Republican, followed Roger W. Jessup in 1956 and lost reelection in 1972 to KABC television commentator Baxter Ward, a Democrat. (The office is nonpartisan.)

Dorn, whose middle name is Mercy, reportedly grew up in Newhall. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1941. He married Phyllis and, following his retirement from public service, moved to Morro Bay, where some of his family members run a restaurant.

In 1966, Dorn finished third in a three-way race for the Republican nomination for California governor. (Ronald Reagan won.)
