The Awakening of Paredon Blanco Under a California Sun.
(Or, A Lopez Family Who's Who and What's What.)

Webmaster's notes.

The author's father was Francisco "Chico" Lopez (1820-1900), a prominent Southern California landowner from whom is derived "Chicalopes," an early name for the Vasquez Rocks area. One of Chico Lopez's properties was a stock ranch near Elizabeth Lake where another Chico — Chico Vasquez, the law-abiding brother of Tiburcio — was Lopez's ranch foreman.

Chico Lopez was related to but should not be confused with the less well-to-do Francisco Lopez (b. 1802, d.?) who discovered gold in Placerita Canyon in 1842 and whose exploits after the 1840s are unknown. The latter supposedly died a pauper and is rumored to have been buried an unmarked grave in parts unknown.

The author, Francisca Lopez de Belderrain, was "Gold" Francisco's great-grandniece.

Paredon Blanco is the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles.
